When Is the Best Time for a Newborn Photoshoot?

The most peaceful, curled‑up newborn photographs are usually created when your baby is between 7 and 21 days old. In these early days, little ones are naturally more settled, sleepy and flexible, which allows them to drift into those soft, timeless poses that define classic newborn photography.

If your baby is a little older, newborn sessions are still lovely up to around 3–4 months, they simply offer a different style. Babies at this age are more alert and expressive — perfect for capturing bright eyes, gentle smiles, and those first little milestones that show their emerging personality.

When Should I Book My Newborn Session?

It’s best to reserve your newborn session while you’re still pregnant — most families book shortly after their 12‑ or 20‑week scan. I only take on a limited number of newborns each month, which means your booking is fully flexible around your due date.

Your provisional session date is set for around 10 days after your due date. If baby arrives early or later than expected, we simply adjust the appointment forwards or backwards. Working this way keeps everything relaxed and, in most cases, avoids the need for any rescheduling at all.

Securing your spot in advance guarantees availability during that ideal newborn window, while still giving us plenty of room to adapt once your little one arrives.

How Long Does a Newborn Photography Session Last?

Newborn photoshoots usually run for 2–3 hours, giving us plenty of space for feeding, settling, nappy changes and all the cuddles your little one needs. The session flows entirely at your baby’s pace — no rushing, no pressure, just a gentle, relaxed environment.

This slower rhythm helps keep your baby content and ensures we capture beautifully natural images filled with softness, connection and those tiny details you’ll want to remember forever.
