Where Does the Newborn Photoshoot Take Place?

Newborn sessions take place in my calm and comfortable natural light studio in Mansfield, easily accessible for families across Nottinghamshire and the surrounding counties. My studio environment is warm, relaxed, and thoughtfully designed to keep both baby and parents comfortable throughout the session.

What Is Your Newborn Photography Style?

My style is natural, timeless, and completely baby-led. Soft natural light, neutral tones, and minimal props ensure your baby remains the focus of every image. The aim is to create photographs that feel authentic and will look just as beautiful years from now as they do today. Rather than heavily styled setups, the emphasis is on connection, tiny details and genuine family moments.

When Is the Best Time for a Newborn Photoshoot?

The ideal time for sleepy, curled-up newborn portraits is between 7 and 21 days old. At this stage, babies are typically more settled and still naturally tuck into those classic newborn poses. Older newborn sessions (up to around 3–4 months) are also possible. These sessions tend to be more awake and interactive, capturing eye contact, expressions and early milestones.

When Should I Book My Newborn Session?

I recommend booking while you are still pregnant, ideally after your 12 or 20 week scan. I take on only a small number of newborn bookings each month to allow flexibility around due dates. Your session date is scheduled around 10 days after your due date, and if we need to then we can move the date forwards or backwards slightly, however when I work to this rule i very rarely have to reschedule. Booking early guarantees availability while keeping plans flexible.

How Long Does a Newborn Photography Session Last?

Your newborn photoshoot will typically last between 2–3 hours. This allows plenty of time for feeding, settling, changing and cuddles. Everything is completely baby-led, with no rushing. The relaxed pace ensures a calm experience and beautiful, natural results.

What Should My Baby Wear?

I provide a curated collection of soft, neutral newborn outfits, including classic white baby grows, rompers, bloomers, and beautifully textured blankets for swaddling. You’re also welcome to bring a sentimental outfit, blanket or cuddly toy if you’d like it included.

What Should Parents and Siblings Wear?

Simple, neutral clothing works best and keeps the focus on your baby. Soft creams, greys, denim and earthy tones photograph beautifully and remain timeless. The most important thing is that you are comfortable and feel like yourself during your photoshoot and when viewing your images.

Is Newborn Photography Safe?

Yes. Your baby’s safety and comfort is always my top priority. I work slowly, follow safe posing practices, and never force your baby into uncomfortable positions. All sessions are entirely baby-led and we work at their pace, allowing time for cuddles and feeding when needed.

Can Parents and Siblings Be Included?

Absolutely. Newborn photography is about celebrating your growing family. Parent and sibling photographs are always encouraged to capture those early connections and emotions. These images often become the most treasured.

What If My Baby Doesn’t Sleep?

That’s completely okay. Not all babies sleep, and some of the most beautiful newborn images come from wide-eyed moments, stretches, and natural interaction. Every session is guided by your baby’s needs.

What Happens After the Session?

After your newborn photoshoot, you’ll receive a gallery of around 30+ professionally hand-edited images that reflect your baby’s earliest days in a soft, timeless way. These photographs are designed to be cherished now and passed down for generations.

Why Invest in Professional Newborn Photography?

The newborn stage passes by so quickly. Tiny fingers, curled toes and that unmistakable newborn scrunch change within weeks. Professional newborn photography preserves these details in a way that phone snapshots simply cannot. These images become the memories you return to as your child grows, reminding you just how small they once were.

If you are looking for newborn photography in Nottinghamshire and would like to reserve your session, booking early during pregnancy is highly recommended.
