As 2024 draws to a close, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible and heart-warming moments I've shared with my clients and my own family and friends.

My cosy family and newborn studio in Nottingham has been filled with laughter, love, and countless memories captured through my lens. It’s been a privilege to meet so many wonderful families, reconnect with past clients and to document their unique stories.

Here are some of my favourite moments, ones that made this year unforgettable.

Welcoming New Life

One of the most magical parts of my work is capturing those first precious days of a newborn baby's life, those delicate first few weeks filled with the most amount of love you have ever felt.

. This year, I had the honour of photographing the most gorgeous and precious newborns. From sleepy snuggles to delicate yawns, these sessions are so precious, and the trust you put on me as new parents to document this amazing time is never lost on me.

Celebrating expectant parents and mothers-to-be

Another highlight of 2024 was working with expectant parents to capture the beauty of pregnancy through gorgeous maternity images.

These sessions celebrated the incredible journey into parenthood, showcasing glowing mothers-to-be as they anticipated their little one’s arrival.

Whether in the studio or at a stunning outdoor location, these moments are always filled with so much love and joy, for what’s to come.

Maternity shoots are one of the things that new parents more often than not regret when they don't book one, so I always encourage mamas-to-be to step out of their comfort zone, and in front of the camera to capture beautiful images of themselves, their bump, and their bond with their partner before their world expands with love and a little bit of chaos once baby is earth-side.

Capturing family bonds

2024 has been a year filled with wholesome family connections.

Whether it was parents sharing tender moments with their children, siblings giggling together, or multi-generational portraits, each session told a story of love and togetherness. I especially loved working with families who returned for updated portraits, watching their children grow and their bonds deepen.

I may be bias, but i truly believe in documenting your family as the years go by, you will be able to look back at the images we create together with such fondness, only realising the passing of time once you are holding the photographs in your hands.

These photographs will serve as heart-warming memories as your family grows.

Memorable Milestones & First Birthday Celebrations

This year I have had the absolute joy of watching many of the newborns I have photographed grow into their unique and playful personalities.

One of the most delightful parts of this year was celebrating their first birthdays with fun-filled cake and donut smash sessions. These shoots were bursting with fun, laughter, and so much love!

It’s incredible to witness how much these little ones change in just a year, from sleepy & scrunchy newborns to curious, playful toddlers.

These sessions were not just about marking their 6-9 month milestone, or their very first birthday but also about celebrating the joy and growth that comes with their first year of life. Each milestone or birthday shoot was as unique as the child, reflecting their budding personalities and documenting their growth.

These memories are some of my most treasured highlights from 2024, thank you to all my clients for coming back to celebrate with me!

Adventures Beyond the Studio: Life in the Barrowcliff Household

Outside of work, 2024 was packed with personal adventures and meaningful moments with friends and family.

January kicked off with a trip to Bristol for the Gather to Grow photography event, a great start to the year with inspiring peers.

February marked our wedding anniversary, celebrated with a serene trip to the Lake District accompanied by our beloved dog, Finn.

March was mostly spent at home with loved ones, though it ended with a rainy Norfolk day trip with my sister and our dogs.

April brought new experiences—a cowboy-themed night out, a live orchestra playing video game scores, and celebrations for my sister’s 30th birthday at crazy golf and Hickory’s Smokehouse. Finn turned three with a delightful pawty at BrewDog!

In May, I must have been hit by the hiking bug, with an early morning hike up Mam Tor, a visit to Winnats Pass, and explorations of The Roaches and Lud’s Church in the Peak District. A hen do in the Lake District brought boat trips, Beatrix Potter magic, and an escape room victory.

June was unforgettable as I welcomed my incredible niece into the world. Born two months premature, she’s now thriving at six months old. The month also included my second soggy Download Festival and a bout of post-festival COVID that knocked me out for a week.

July saw more celebrations, from my birthday camping on the Welsh coast to day trips with my sister to Whitby and a 101 Dalmatians musical.

August was festival fun at Bloodstock, my first camping experience at a festival, which turned out to be fantastic. I also enjoyed lavender fields in Norfolk and my brother’s beautiful wedding at Donington Park Farmhouse.

September featured more Peak District hiking and the unforgettable NC500 adventure with Karl and Finn. Despite challenges like a flat tyre, gale force winds, a broken tent and car camping, it was an experience filled with resilience and laughs.

October marked seven years since Karl and I met, celebrated with cocktails, shopping, and a Scream outdoor cinema night.

November and December were quieter, focused on Christmas prep, family time, and reflection after the loss of my mother-in-law, Lorraine, who fought bravely against cancer for 18 months. We miss her terribly.

Studio updates

This year also brought some exciting updates to the studio!

The biggest one being, at the very start of January, I moved from my Bingham studio to my new space in Mansfield, and honestly it was the best decision I made.

From new props and backdrops to new additions to my client wardrobe, I’ve worked hard to ensure the studio looks and feels like a cosy haven, a home away from home, I want to ensure every session is a seamless and an enjoyable and memorable experience.

The cosy seating area, complete with complimentary refreshments, continues to be a hit with parents who appreciate a moment of relaxation during their visit.

Looking ahead to 2025

As I look back on 2024, I am filled with gratitude for everyone who trusted me to capture their memories.

Each session is a reminder of why I love what I do: freezing moments in time so they can be cherished forever. This really is the best job in the world.

As we step into 2025, I’m excited to welcome more families, explore new creative ideas, and continue telling the beautiful stories of those who visit my Studio.
